The Motors Foundation officially commenced at the beginning of 2010, although its origins date back to 2004.
Initially in 2004 the Company partnered with our staff by asking them to donate $1.00 per week from their pay, which was then matched by the Company.
A decision was made to support Camp Quality and over the past 6 years we have donated $250,000 towards their summer camp programs.
In 2010, it was decided to extend the partnership with our staff by asking them to consider giving more each week, on the basis that the Company increased its contribution by matching the staff donation by 5 times.
This decision created the ability to support a greater number of Tasmanian charities, and was the basis of creating a Foundation, aptly named the Motors Foundation.
The focus of the Motors Foundation is to identify needs in the Tasmanian community that are not currently being fully met by the Government or by mainstream charities. These needs are predominately associated with disadvantaged youth and disadvantaged families.
The Motors Foundation has formed significant relationships with Camp Quality and the Salvation Army. Funds are provided to Camp Quality each year to enable them to run their summer camp programs.
A 5 year ($350,000) agreement was signed with the Salvation Army to fund their innovative Doorways to Parenting program. This program assists families where child protection orders are made on children, particularly when they have either been removed or at risk of being removed from the family unit.
The Motors Foundation is currently investigating how we can make a difference in reducing the number of homeless youth throughout Tasmania.
This is a very exciting program, born out of a very simple idea.
